The hospice nurse and I went out to admit, “Jesse” to hospice. Jesse has had cardiac disease for over ten years. Recently he has had several hospitalizations due to that disease. Jesse has been around farming his entire life as it is his family’s long-term business.
Jesse was real and so aware of what he needed to do to live his life his way. I so admire him for that ability. I know he will do well no matter the outcome.
HIS SPIRITUALITY
He lives way out in the country;
farming, agriculture, crops all around.
It was difficult to see where to turn left
as it appeared to be a trail, not a county road.
His home is on eighty acres.
Tomatoes growing all around.
He’s been a farmer his entire life
as Grandpa harvested the first viable seeds.
He’s been recently hospitalized multiple times;
all for treating his cardiac disease.
They wanted to run more tests;
but he declined saying, “I am now done”.
He denied having any fears or concerns saying,
“I know my time will now be shortened,
but I need to do things my way.
It helps me accept and feel blessed about my life”.
I asked him about any spiritual beliefs.
Looking outside the sliding glass door, he said.
“My spirituality is mother nature.
I often see bunnies and deer running all around”.
“I am okay being alone as I am in nature;
which gives me peace and gives me comfort.”
We all do believe what makes sense to us.
His belief is so natural; so beautiful
so spiritual.
