Two of our Social Workers are out on maternity leave; leaving staff short. I help out when I can as my primary focus is on doing the hospice admissions. This morning, I called Barbara to check in and see how she was doing or if she had any needs. I was so amazed by her optimistic attitude about her illness and about life. She was real about life and saw life in such a positive way. She touched me deeply.
HER BELIEFS
She was diagnosed with cancer six years ago.
Her decline has been slow, but constant.
She came onto hospice over a year ago.
She is now bedridden due to weakness.
I called her today to see how she was doing;
asking about any needs, changes or decline.
She amazed me with her positive attitude, as answered,
‘I choose life”.
“I am trying to get up and out of bed.
I am so wanting my life back.
I have a strong faith in God.
I am living”.
She has a tremendous support network by her side.
She has daily visits from family and friends.
“I have such a good appetite, and they all do know;
“Don’t come without bringing some food”.
She deeply knows, “What will be, will just be”.
Her optimistic attitude, her faith in God, her support network
all surround her in keeping her bright light glowing.
I have no doubt, she will always be truly supported by
Her beliefs!
