Hospice is all about comfort care and quality of life. Hospice’s goal is to focus on following the patient and family wishes. We strongly encourage patients and families to keep us informed of what is going on; medically and non-medically, to help us in supporting them their way. There is no right or wrong way to do things. Each of us will only go down that road one time. It is an entirely new experience.
There were several family members present when we walked into “Nancy’s” home. They all embraced us with their love. One could strongly feel the love between them all. That is the best gift of all. They are handling things the best way they can with love. It doesn’t get any better.
HER WAY
One year ago, she heard cancer.
Chemo and radiation did not work.
Her cancer continued to grow and spread.
It was time now for hospice support.
Hospice does not come in and take over.
Our goal is to support her to do things her way.
We are all about comfort care and quality of life
as defined totally by her.
She gets so nauseous when eating food
that now she is intaking only liquids.
Losing so much weight has weakened her.
She currently is down to only seventy pounds.
When asking her how she is coping with it all,
she so sincerely and graciously stated;
‘I talk to my God. I love him so.
I am totally at peace”.
She is not afraid of the afterlife
as has crossed over twice,
but then is not yet ready to go
as she is Full Code; Full Intervention.
Having no fear of dying vs Full Code
may be a contradiction of treatment;
but then no one can blame her
as she just turned forty-one years of age.
Our goal for her is constant and strong.
We will totally continue to support her;
allowing her to be in control and at peace
while living her life
her way.
